It Had to Happen

Letting go is so hard sometimes. And to be truly honest, I didn't like completely let go or anything but I came to that spot in my WIP where I just needed to move in one direction or the other. I was bobbing in the water and I needed to either get out or continue to bob and wait for hypothermia to kick in. I opted for moving on. According to my kids, my toes are unnaturally tiny which I do not agree with. I think they're perfectly proportioned to my body. Either way, bobbing seemed potentially detrimental to them, so I moved on to another WIP. And it feels good. I miss my other characters sometimes. But I think we truly needed this time apart. It's not them it's me. After nearly two years of hanging out, we needed a break to reassess our relationship. So it's not goodbye, its more like see you later. But putting two years worth of work on the back burner is not an easy thing to do and knowing when you need to do that is even harder to figure out. All in all, I've just had to rely on my gut. Now if I can just figure out when I need to go back. Wouldn't it be simpler if your characters could just IM you when its time? "Um...hello there. Fictional hottie that you created here. Um...we were like working up some major chemistry and you like bailed on me. I know that I was starting to sound a little bland and even for a second there I was leaning into that whole Cullen thing, but now that we've had this time apart, I think I can be totally original and just as much into you as you've been into me. Can we just pick up where we left off?" Okay, so maybe that would be a little creepy. But then again, he is kind of hot in a fictional character kind of way. Sighs... What about you? Have you been at one of those way weird places where you wish a character could ping you or is that just me?

  1. IMing characters: creepy, but useful. :)

  2. LOL! I will miss reading your chapters on Cullen and Ember and all, but look forward to your new project!

If you're anything like me, you'll be cheerfully working on your new WIP, and the lightbulb will go on telling you what to do for the old one.
